Enhance Your Tesla’s Security with the VIOFO A229 Pro Dashcam

In this article, we’re diving into how adding a dash cam to your Tesla can significantly boost its safety and security. You might wonder why a dash cam is necessary when Teslas already come with eight cameras and Sentry Mode. Stay tuned because the answer might surprise you.

A Shoutout to VIOFO

Before we dive in, I want to extend a huge thanks to VIOFO for sending over their flagship A229 Pro dashcam system. VIOFO has been a leader in designing and developing high-quality dash cams since 2011, consistently pushing the envelope with innovative technology.

Unboxing the VIOFO A229 Pro

Let’s kick things off by seeing what comes in the box. The A229 Pro system includes:

VIOFO A229 Pro Product Box

• A229 Pro Dashcam

• Interior Camera

• Rear Camera

• Trim Removal Tool

• CPL Lens (to reduce reflections, glare, and haze)

• Cables for connectivity and power

• Wireless Bluetooth Remote Control

• High-Speed SD Card

• Hardwire Kit (for powering the camera via the 12v battery instead of Tesla’s 12v port)

Installation Process

Now, let’s get this setup installed. If you prefer to skip this part, use the chapter bar below. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

VIOFO A229 Pro Dashcam Installation in a Tesla

1. Main Camera: Mount it on the right side of the rearview mirror, peel off the backing, and stick it to the windshield. Run the power cable to the 12v outlet in the center console, hiding the wire with the trim removal tool.

2. Interior Camera: Optional, but for this video, I’ll install it on the left side of the rearview mirror. Peel off the backing, stick it to the windshield, and connect it to the main camera, again concealing the wire.

3. Rear Camera: Another optional addition. Mount it on the top center of the rear windshield, then run the wire to the main camera, hiding it in the Tesla’s trim.

4. Bluetooth Controller: Stick it anywhere within reach, like the backside of the infotainment screen for a clean look.

Features and Advantages

Now that we have everything installed, let’s talk features and why the VIOFO A229 Pro outshines Tesla’s built-in cameras.

VIOFO A229 Pro Dashcam VS Tesla Comparision

1. Superior Image Quality

The VIOFO A229 Pro features Sony’s STARVIS 2 image sensors, recording in 4K with a wider dynamic range and higher light sensitivity. This translates to HDR balance between light and shadows, less noise, and motion blur, allowing clear identification of license plates and faces, day or night. Tesla’s cameras simply can’t compete. Check out the side-by-side comparison.

2. Night Vision Capability

The interior camera is equipped with a light sensor and infrared LEDs, providing clear images even in the dark. This is a massive upgrade over Tesla’s interior camera, helping identify intruders and their actions inside your car.

3. Ultra-Fast 5G WiFi

Transfer footage directly to your smartphone with ultra-fast 5G WiFi. This feature is invaluable, especially when needing to show footage to law enforcement after an incident. You can also connect the camera to your smartphone or tablet via USB.

4. 24/7 Parking Monitoring

While Tesla’s Sentry Mode is impressive, it struggles in low light. The A229 Pro offers superior low light recording quality and 24/7 parking monitoring. Plus, it records audio, providing a comprehensive perspective during investigations.

5. Loop Recording & Auto Emergency Lock

Worried about recording space? The A229 Pro supports loop recording and automatically locks footage in the event of a collision, thanks to its built-in G-sensor.

6. Bluetooth Remote Control

This handy device allows you to manually lock footage, turn on the microphone, take photos, switch to time-lapse recording, turn on HDR, or power off the camera. It’s a versatile addition that enhances the dash cam’s functionality.

7. Smart Voice Control

Operate the dash cam hands-free with smart voice control. Start/stop recording, take photos, and toggle WiFi with simple voice commands in multiple languages.

8. Quad-Mode GPS Module

The state-of-the-art GPS module supports four satellite positioning systems, providing detailed location, speed, and time data. This feature is not available in Tesla’s cameras.

9. 2.4-Inch Screen

Always keep an eye on what’s being recorded with the built-in screen, ensuring you’re always informed.
