A Drivers Review of the 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance

Since the release of the refreshed Tesla Model 3 Performance, many of you have been eagerly awaiting my take on this incredible car. Well, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been driving the 2024 Model 3 Performance daily, and now I’m ready to provide you with an honest review of its features inside and out. I’ll dive into its pros and cons and compare it to my 2021 Model 3 Performance. Without further ado, let’s get started!

EXTERIOR

2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance Exterior

Let’s start with the exterior. In my previous Model 3 Performance review, I mentioned my wish for more aggressive design changes to distinguish the performance version from the base models. The 2021 model came with performance upgrades like a rear spoiler, 21-inch rims, and red brake calipers, but it lacked distinct design changes to make it stand out. This has completely changed in 2024. Now, when you see a Model 3 Performance, you know it’s a Model 3 Performance.

Tesla has added a rear spoiler, bigger sportier rims, and red calipers, and they’ve completely redesigned the front bumper, giving it sharper lines, air vents, and a front lip. Additionally, a spoiler rear diffuser has been added, making the entire car look mean and aggressive. Like the Plaid Model S, the 3 Performance finally gets its own badge. Combined with new streamlined headlights and tail lights, this car looks far better than my old Model 3 Performance. While I’ve had no complaints about the exterior, I do prefer the old Uberturbine wheels over the new ones. Thankfully, you can remove the aero fins to make the wheels look sportier. I think they’ll grow on me.

INTERIOR

2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance Interior

Before getting the Model 3 Performance, I also spent some time with the base 2024 Model 3. The first thing I noticed when I sat inside was how much of an upgrade it was compared to my old Model 3. The Performance version is identical to the base model, with a few additional changes. Overall, the 2024 trims have a more luxurious feel, with nicer materials on the doors and an ambient light bar running along the dashboard and doors. This integrated system makes the car feel more premium, like a BMW.

Closing the doors, I noticed how quiet it was inside. The new Tesla features many improvements to reduce outside noise, including double-paned glass, shock-absorbing technology, removal of plastic trim throughout, and additional anchor points on the rear doors. The front seats are much more comfortable, and the Performance version takes it up a notch with sports seats featuring enhanced bolstering and deeper seating positions. These seats are also ventilated, which is a fantastic addition for long drives.

The center console and glovebox have been upgraded with a sliding mechanism to hide the cup holders, making the interior look cleaner. The wireless charging pads are bigger and now double as the keycard location. The new steering wheel, which has all functions moved to capacitive buttons, took some getting used to but has proven to be quite handy, especially with the quick access camera button.

The 2024 Model 3 also features upgraded cameras and a main screen with thinner bezels and higher brightness. The system feels much faster and more fluid, likely due to upgraded WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. The blind spot indicators hidden in the window speakers and the new 17-speaker sound system, with dual subwoofers and amplifiers, provide an unmatched audio experience. An additional exterior speaker at the rear of the car enhances the tailgating experience and doubles as the horn.

BACK SEATS

The back seats in the 2024 refresh are more comfortable, with better seats that are higher up, more inclined, and have more cushioning. This provides more legroom and a bigger overall feel. A cool feature is the rear screen, allowing passengers to connect Bluetooth headphones or gaming controllers, control the rear climate, and adjust the front seats for more legroom. The frunk and trunk have also been upgraded with more room and better accessibility.

DRIVING AND PERFORMANCE

Now, let’s get into what the Model 3 Performance is all about—performance. My 2021 Model 3 Performance was impressive, but the 2024 model takes it to another level. With 510 horsepower, a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds, and a higher top speed of 163 mph, the acceleration of this car is phenomenal. The new Performance Drive unit delivers significantly more power and torque, and the braking has also improved with track-ready brakes included.

The tires have been upgraded to Pirelli P-Zero 4 variants, providing better traction, lower rolling resistance, and increased range. The new adaptive damping system adjusts in real-time to optimize ride and handling, making the car feel stiffer during cornering. I’m looking forward to testing it on the track, especially with Track Mode V3 now available.

The car’s improved side impact protection and better crash protection are also notable upgrades. Tesla has removed the stalks, and there are now three ways to put the car in gear, including a new swipe gesture on the screen and an automatic feature using sensors. While I miss the stalks, I’ve gotten used to the turn signals on the steering wheel and prefer them for their ease and speed of use.
